Dr. Carlos A. Sanchez is a board certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who has been treating children, adolescents and adults for over 15 years. He assists his patients in developing self-understanding of their own psychological conflicts through talk or play therapy.
Dr. Sanchez’s work with adults help them to resolve their emotional distress through gaining self-awareness in their own conflicts. Adults who consult with Dr. Sanchez, often have problems reaching professional goals and establishing meaningful relationships. His patients suffer from low self-esteem, inhibitions, anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunction, phobias, obsessions and compulsions among other issues.
In his work with children, Dr. Sanchez uses talk and play therapy as it is more difficult for children to verbalize and communicate their experiences by talking alone. Through play children communicate to us what is in their mind. Adolescents may talk or play, depending upon they feel comfortable with.
Dr. Sanchez treats children and adolescents with a variety of problems. Some of these are: separation issues, sleep problems, inattention, hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, phobias, behavioral problems, poor performance at school, difficulty establishing relationships with peers, eating problems, aggressive and sexual acting out, just to mention some of them. He does a collaborative work with parents, teachers, guardians and other professionals when it is necessary and appropriate.
Dr. Sanchez takes into consideration developmental factors and early relationships for the understanding of current patterns of behaviors and response to stressful situations. This approach helps individuals to grow emotionally, change, free themselves of suffering and find more meaningful lives. He uses medication when necessary, on agreement with the persons that he treats and their parents in order to decrease suffering, and to enhance and facilitate the therapy and psychoanalysis.
Dr. Sanchez is a bilingual-bicultural professional with expertise in immigration, acculturation and identity issues, ethnic and cultural diversity, and victims of political conflicts. He also has worked extensively with Latinos and Latino-Americans.
